Cardiff Royal Infirmary
Key facts & challenges
- Short Description
- Cardiff Royal Infirmary has been at the heart of patient care for the people of Cardiff since 1883. Once the only hospital in the area, this Grade II listed building required some looking after itself. As part of a £30 million redevelopment of the site, Laing O'Rourke was contracted to carry out an extensive refurbishment of the clinic to bring it into the 21st Century, providing a range of health services including an Out of hours GP Facility, therapy services, radiology and outpatient clinics. The challenge however was to upgrade and modernise the buildings interiors while also preserving its character, integrating it's period features into a functional and hygienic clinical environment.
