Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre
Key facts & challenges
- Short Description
- The build of the Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre enables Aberdeen to host national and international swimming and diving competitions alongside providing world-class facilities for new swimmers and the local community. Comprising of a 10-lane 50m Olympic pool with a dividing boom and part floating floor, a 25m x 16.5m diving pool and 600-seat spectator gallery, the centre is the premier sport and exercise facility in Scotland. It played host to 3rd Commonwealth Water Polo Championships in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The unique qualities and environment of the centre, where conventional plasterboard would have been unsuitable, certainly required a unique product. GTEC Aqua Board was used which contains additives which protect against mould and fungus damage and it's special nonwoven coating which can be directly tiled or painted, making it ideal for use in leisure facilities including swimming pools and sports shower facilities.
